Black Rifle Coffee Company Just Black
I’ve spent the last month having an unhealthy relationship.
It was with coffee. I’d tell it how much I needed it. It would assure me it was there for me. 8 cups later and it was 12:30am and I was alone and wide awake.
I’d do it again.
This month I’m reviewing Just Black from Black Rifle Coffee Company. It is fantastic.
And it’s just not me saying that. Even though mom isn’t great with caffeine she had one of the first cups of it I made. Her comment? “That is the best cup of coffee I’ve had in a long time.” At our monthly craft day I normally make coffee in the afternoon when people start wearing down. I’m normally the person who finishes it off, iced, after everyone has left. There was no more coffee before I even got a cup. I had to brew a second pot.
If I didn’t have this blog where I review a coffee every month I’d probably have already ordered another bag. …does anyone read this?
For brewing I used the Chemex and the French Press. There were no beans left to try it cold brew–that would be a waste.
For the Chemex I never got much of a bloom out of it. As I’ve previously said, I don’t know if this matters, it’s just an observation. When brewing it has a sweet, nutty scent, very reminiscent of almonds. The coffee itself has no bitterness, no bad lingering mouth-feel. It’s a smooth, strong, dark coffee. I like it.
In the French Press it makes a very strong tasting coffee. Not bitter or anything, just strong. Nothing really out of the ordinary to note with this brewing method. I prefer Chemex, but I normally do.
I don’t mind this coffee black, and honestly, the darkness of the coffee overpowers the cream anyway. I have never seen the cream overpower the coffee with this variety so that you get that milky look and I think that’s a good thing.
Pricewise, it’s pretty reasonable. $12.99 for a 12 oz. bag which figures out to $1.08/ounce.
My take on Just Black from Black Rifle Coffee Company? If you haven’t figured it out already, go order some NOW. I don’t think you’ll regret it. And if you do–message me, I’ll pay for you to ship it to me.
